The Toshiba NB205, NB255 and NB305 series netbooks are small and are easy to take with you almost everywhere you go. If you start experiencing instability with the operating system or your netbook becomes overrun by viruses, recovering your netbook's factory settings will resolve system errors and restore missing system files, in addition to removing viruses on your machine.
Instructions
Recover Using Recovery Partition
Step 1:
Shut down your Toshiba NB205, NB255 or NB305 series netbook. Hold down the "0" key and press the Power button to start your netbook. Continue holding down the "0" key.
Step 2:
Click "Yes" along the bottom of the screen when a warning message appears in red lettering informing you that all the information on the hard drive will be erased. The Toshiba netbook will continue booting up to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.
Step 3:
Select "Recovery of Factory Default Software" and click "Next."
Step 4:
Select "Recover to out-of-box state" and click "Next." Click "Next" again when a warning message appears on the screen informing you the contents of your hard drive will be erased and your netbook will be restored to its original factory settings. The recovery process will begin.
Step 5:
Press any key on the keyboard to restart the netbook when a message appears on the screen saying the recovery is finished. The Toshiba netbook will boot up to the Windows setup screen.
Recover Using Recovery DVDs or Flash Drive
Step 1:
Plug in an external USB optical drive and insert the first recovery DVD into the optical drive. Alternatively you can plug a flash drive with the recovery software on it into an available USB port.
Step 2:
Restart the Toshiba netbook.
Step 3:
Press the "F12" key repeatedly when the netbook begins to boot up until you are redirected to the Boot menu. Highlight "DVD" or "USB Flash" using the arrow keys on the keyboard, depending which recovery media you are using. Press "Enter" to boot up to the highlighted item.
Step 4:
Click "Yes" when a message appears on the screen informing you that all the information on your hard drive will be erased and rewritten. The Toshiba Recovery Wizard will appear on the screen.
Step 5:
Select "Recovery of Factory Default Software" and click "Next." Select "Recover to out-of-box state" and click "Next." Click "Next" again when a warning message appears on the screen informing you the contents of your hard drive will be erased and your netbook will be restored to its original factory settings. The recovery process will begin.
Step 6:
Insert and remove DVDs as prompted if you are using a set of recovery DVDs. Unplug the optical drive or the flash drive when a message appears on the screen saying the recovery process is complete. Press any key to restart your Toshiba netbook. Your netbook will boot up to the Windows setup screen.
